On June 9, 2023, in Lviv, Ukraine, the Lviv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and the Scientific Research Center of Forensic Expertise in Information Technology and Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine hosted the III All-Ukrainian Forum of Forensic Experts, titled ‘Forensic Expertise in the Context of Ukraine’s Recovery.’
The aim of this year’s forum was to analyze the prospects for development and the formation of methodological and theoretical foundations of forensic expertise in the context of Ukraine’s recovery.
The event was conducted both offline and in a video conference format, where representatives of forensic expertise, law enforcement and judicial systems, executive authorities, the legal profession, as well as researchers and practicing specialists from various parts of Ukraine, had the opportunity to share their experiences and discuss a range of issues related to the current state and future development of forensic expertise in Ukraine.
Sergey Denisenko, Executive Director of CyberLab, addressed the forum participants with a welcoming speech. In his speech, he emphasized the challenges of methodological support, workforce training, and highlighted the importance of maintaining connections and cooperation among forensic institutions.
During the forum’s panel discussion, there was active debate on pertinent issues related to forensic expertise. Topics included the quality, reliability, and impartiality of forensic expert opinions. Additionally, there were discussions about improving cooperation between forensic institutions from different agencies, private sector experts, and law enforcement authorities, which should be facilitated through knowledge exchange, the implementation of modern technologies, and innovative integration directly into the process of forensic expertise.
