From November 21 to 24, 2023, a training seminar on “Cybersecurity and Information Protection” was held in Cherkasy for employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) Forensic Service.
The objectives of the event were to address and resolve the following issues:
- Enhancing the qualifications of MIA Forensic Service employees in network technologies and information protection.
- Strengthening the security of automated information systems within the MIA Forensic Service against cyber threats.
- Developing a unified algorithm for responding to cyber incidents in the Department of Forensic Science and the National Forensic Science Center of the MIA, aimed at minimizing harmful effects and quickly restoring operational capability.
- Exchanging experiences and familiarizing participants with new methods and software products.
As a lecturer, Valentin Kucheryuk, Director of CyberLab, presented on “Reliable Cyber Protection in Wartime.” His talk covered the Protective DNS system, which helps track user requests in real-time by filtering traffic. When a user accesses a website, the browser queries the DNS server for its IP address. With Protective DNS in place, the request is automatically compared to a database of harmful sites (domains) and IP addresses, blocking access to phishing resources. Notably, many phishing operations are coordinated with the Russian Federation, diverting unlawfully obtained funds from Ukrainians to support the terrorist state.
Such events contribute to the enhancement and continuous update of cybersecurity and information protection knowledge among MIA Forensic Service employees.
